Adam Krajňák is the father of the family and the head of a criminal group that smuggles cigarettes across the Slovak-Ukrainian border. In the circle of his loved ones, he plays the irreplaceable role of a caring confidant, but also of a principled and uncompromising leader, who does not lack temperament even in crucial moments. However, the peaceful coexistence of the two intersecting worlds begins to shake when the newly built border of the Schengen area causes an increase in nervousness from the uncertain future.
And when one of the smuggling shipments fails, an unstoppable avalanche of events will start, during which Krajňák will have to question his own borders, which he has so far refused to cross. Directed by Petr Bebjak, he brings a contagious spark to the criminal theme with elements of the thriller, which keeps him miles away from ordinary genre entertainment, and reveals a universal human story set in an environment where cultures, customs and lives intersect.
Based on the vote of the members of the Slovak Television and Film Academy, film THE LINE became a national candidate for a nomination for the Oscars and the Golden Globe for 2018.
At the award ceremony of the National Film Awards “Slnko v sieti“ for 2017, film THE LINE received 13 nominations, of which it won 6 awards.
